LO2:Call sheets

LO2: Photoshoot plans

LO2: Fonts, graphics, house style, colours

Theses are the colour scheme that i will be using as it connotes the outdoors and brown, green and yellow are my house style colours, yellow also connotes danger which grabs the readers attention and appeal to the target market as i am looing for out going and adventurous people

these are the fonts that i have chosen as to represent what they say for example i chose royal serif for the DofE font as i felt it best connoted the royalty and heritage of the DofE award

i have made these graphics to be used for my text to sit on these are also in keeping with the house style and target audience

LO2: Legal and Ethical Issues

Legal

  • Obscene publication acts

-The publication of some thing that has a negative effect on your audience by accepted standards of morality

My magazine is designed for amateur hikers in the centre of Sheffield. aged 18-35 year old.

This applies to my magazine if we instruct a very novice walker to go on a very dangerous hike it could cause them to injure themselves and even cause fatality.

To make sure that our articles are safe we must explain what type of equipment would be best be safe on a particular walk, recce the walks our self to ensure they are safe for novices and the maps are up accurate. the map must be the most up to date version that we publish.
  • Libel law

- Libel is stating something in the written word or print that could be seen as defamatory and damage a reputation.

We couldn't say anything bad about locations and or people who live there to avoid offending them. For example if I was to say that the location was run down and the people who live the are horrible, it could be seen as being defamatory.

I will adhere to this law by gathering some feed back from the location of where I go to ensure they have no reason to be offended. I could to this by having locals look over the work to ensure what I have written isn't offensive and true.

I will always use reliable sources that have .gov, .org or .ac at the end of their web address and must source and reference my work
  • Copy Right Designs and Patents act

Be able to use something that someone else has made and using a release and consent form to have their permeation to use their image.

I will have to gain permeation to use a cut out of an ordinance survey map in my magazine. and any outdoor clothing brands I an using and any location permissions I will need

I will also be creating a lot of my own material meaning i will need intellectual property rights i.e. masthead.
  • Laws of contempt

You are not allowed to publish content that relates to a current on going court case and that could effect the outcome.

This could relate to my magazine i.e. The Body on the Moors and speculation into who was to blame and what was the cause

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-e8c6cbab-da44-4a3c-8f9b-c4fccd53dd24

  • Ethical issues

Ethically I must tell my readers how to correctly prepare for a hike, not to travel on your own as a novice and what to do in an emergency. I will do this by putting advice in my articles and safety notes that are important.

And must have fair representation of people so all people feel that they can take part no mater what shape, size, gender etc.

Give advice on how to conduct themselves in the country side i.e. don't litter, I would do this by writing relevant rules in my article and i.e. if there's a lot of gates in the article make sure to tell them to always leave a gate as they find them after going through it.

lo:1 Proposal

PROPOSAL

PURPOSE:

My magazine is to inform and educate people on hiking, outdoors and the DofE award scheme, in Sheffield and try to get people out of the city and back to nature and draw a contrast for city life and the great outdoors and try and get more city folk out of the city and get them to go outdoors.

FORM AND GENRE

1.      FORM: I am making a local magazine designed to appeal to people from the Sheffield area

2.      GENRE: Hiking, outdoors, sport, for novices and the more experienced

CONTENT

1.      My magazine will have 6 pages

a.      Image result for outdoors magazineFRONT COVER: My font style will be a bold sans serif font to grab the reader’s attention and make it stand out and the masthead will read  ‘Sheffield Trekkers’ appeal to my Sheffield audience to try and get them out of the city this is important as city life becomes boring and hasn’t got many places to go during the weekend that won’t leave you with a hangover this will draw a contrast between city life and the great outdoors. I will use a natural green colour similar to that found in nature to connote a natural and outdoors feel. Cover lines will be things to interest the readers i.e. “Get to grips with nature” and things to draw the reader in i.e. “Have you got what it takes to take on the challenge of Snowdon?” this refers to an article in the magazine, the use of a rhetorical question will challenge the reader these will be written in a bold sans serif font to make it stand out and  a light brown colour to connote dirt, mud and the outdoors .The main cover line will be “From a couch potato to an outdoors alpha” this will create anchorage to the main cover image (Roland Barthes 1969) and by using the term ‘alpha’ we are creating an ideal self, this will be written in a yellow font to make it stand out and connotes danger and importance. House style colours will be colours that have connotations of outdoors and adventure i.e. yellow, green and brown but also consistent with the DofE colour scheme and the pictures that feature. My main cover image will be a medium close up of a hiker with an outdoor scene in the background wearing out doors clothes with mud on their face to connote ruggedness and toughness, to capture the landscape in the background I will need a deep depth of field when taking the picture to keep the model and hiker in focus. The model must stand in a wide stance, chest pushed out and looking at the camera to connote power and strength. This will appeal to my male and female audience as an ideal self and ideal partner. In the top left corner there will be a plug to draw the reader in and will tell them about a competition inside the magazine the plug will be yellow to grab the audience’s attention as it connotes danger and urgency. A banner along the top will read ‘’Great Weekend Walks’’ the banner will be green with brown writing to connote outdoors and nature.

b.      CONTENTS PAGE: My contents page will have a woodland back ground of trees using a deep depth of field, this will connote outdoors and wilderness, the masthead of the contents page will be bold sans serif font, the same as the green used in the front cover to make a consistent house style throughout article will feature articles on the DofE award scheme and how to do basic navigation. My articles will have images of the outdoors and people participating on outdoor activities (hiking). The contents page will be laid out like tiles with page numbers, pictures and a brief description of the article to make the page easy to  navigate and draw the reader in, the pictures will be establishing/long shots to show the reader what the article is about. My magazine will also feature an article reviewing a particular place that I have walked and identifying key aspects of where I went highlighting good rest points, places to eat on route and equipment to take, this will be useful for novices also it they are from the city this sort of technical language may be confusing . Next to page numbers and titles I will have relevant images to that article to draw the reader in . My magazine could potentially feature competitions or give a ways for a new pair of walking boots as this would appeal to the people who will read the magazine or vouchers for the Go Outdoors in Sheffield on Bramall Lane as this would fit the geographical demographic.

c.      1ST DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD: This will be a review piece of a hike in an area of Britain highlighting the good points and bad points i.e. length, duration, cafes along route, scenery, difficulty, possible modes of transport, an overall summary of the day out and will feature an ordnance survey map cut out highlighting the route give top tips on navigation and equipment to take, this page would feature images from the hike. This page will feature a medium close up of me (the writer) using a short depth of field to draw attention to me and also feature other pictures from the location that the article is based on, I would mostly be wearing outdoors clothing .My headline would be the location that I go to in this case it will be Mam Tor as it is easy enough to get to from Sheffield. A pull quote would be used to entice the reader in i.e. “Could you concur Mam Tor?” I would use a rhetorical question to challenge the reader and draw them in. The colour scheme will be in keeping with the pictures that I collect for my article piece, most likely green, brown, blue.

d.      2ND DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD: This will be an informative piece that will inform people about the DofE Award Scheme and how it works and is structured and what happens on a daily basis for DofE. The photos will be of cadets taking part in DofE. The people that I take pictures of will mostly be waring outdoor clothing, I will be needing a medium close up of any one I interview using a short depth of field to draw attention to them. The interview would be about their opinions on DofE and their personal experiences, I am going to interview participants and Instructors of the DofE award My headline would be “Duke Of Edinburg Award”. My pull quote will be used to draw the audience in i.e. “Can you get to the gold standard?” again using a rhetorical question to draw the reader in. The colour scheme will be in keeping with the house style and pictures that I use and the house style of DofE.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

1.      NRS-My NRS group is ABC1s because outdoor activities like hiking appeals to a higher social grade.

2.      My readers will most likely be young professionals living in the city who have moderate spending power and will fall in the C1 NRS social grade.

3.      My imaginary entity-

This is Bill, Bill is 15 and twice a week Bill goes to Army Cadets and whilst being at army cadets he enrolled in the Duke Of Edinburg Award scheme he has already completed his bronze award and his partway through doing his silver award and hopeful to do his gold next year. Through doing his DofE Bill has found a love for the outdoors and hiking, he would love to find out more about DofE and about how he can do more hiking outside of DofE.

Second imaginary entity- James is 24 and moved into the City for work, James has become bored with regular day to day life and finds himself wasting his weekend away. James want to get back to nature but doesn’t know where to go or what to take with him. And is a complete novice.

RESOURCES AND PERSONNEL

1.      Hardware I will be needing –

·        Computer-to edit my photos and create my magazine pages.

·        Camera (Canon DSLR 650D)-to take the pictures to feature in the magazine

·        Lenses- Wide angle for land scape shots, portrait lens of medium close ups for the interviews, standard lens for general use.

·        SD Card-to store the pictures

2.      Software I will be needing-

·        InDesign-to put my magazine together

·        Photoshop- to edit my photos that feature in my magazine

3.      Models I will need-

·        I will need a close up of anyone I am interviewing i.e. DofE participants

·        I will need pictures of the cadets/adults taking part in DofE (Joe Somers, Tom Wilson, Jamie Vanopen)

·        A model to feature on the front cover (DofE participant/adult)

DISTRIBUTION AND MARKETING METHODS

This section is worth a MERIT therefore needs to be detailed:

1.      My magazine would be accessible in places that my target audience will be found i.e. as it is a Sheffield magazine it will be available I outdoor/ sporting shops around Sheffield i.e. Decathlon, Sport Direct and Go Outdoors. I would also distribute the magazine in Sheffield Hallam and Sheffield collage as these people suite the age demographic of people who are living in the city and would like to get away.

2.      Outdoors shops in Sheffield like Go Outdoors and Decathlon will be appropriate because people who are interested in outdoor activities and sports will go and this magazine will appeal to their interests.
